Natalia US Visitor BLOG
I first heard of ROSE Kanda from my cousin, who had done volunteer work there in February 2009. His praises of the beauty of Kanda and the hospitality of Jeevan and his family convinced me to come and see what Kanda is all about.

Upon arriving in Haldwani train station, I was a little uneasy at the thought of being alone, in a strange place before sunrise searching for someone who was supposed to pick me up. But as soon as I stepped off the train I was spotted by Jeevan’s son, Jeet. I breathed a sigh of relief. He and I headed to Jeevan’s daughter’s place in town where she studied. There, I met Jeevans oldest and youngest daughter and Jeet’s wife. After a nap and a delicious breakfast, we headed out for a very long, but very beautiful car ride up to Kanda.

I had time to spend only a week at ROSE Kanda during which I got the opportunity to see the Himalayas, eat some of the tastiest food I’ve ever had, volunteer in a school, visit some beautiful temples, stroll through gorgeous fields, drink fresh spring water, learn a few words of Hindi, eat with my hands, learned how cricket is played, take my first bucket shower, and be treated like a member of a true Indian family. Jeevan and his family are warm and inviting and their hospitality was truly appreciated. It was an experience like no other and I am glad to have had such a wonderful opportunity.

defines himself while meetings difference, eco tourists are also a
good opportunity for the locals to realize the importance of their
culture. When living and talking with eco tourists, Kanda’s people
have to explain every aspect of their culture which make them realize
the beauty of their culture. Besides, Village tourism has encouraged
locals to organize cultural events to share with the visitors. These
are opportunities for the eldest members of the community to share
their tradition with the youngest. Indeed ecotourism allow
