Hello and greetings from Kanda!
My name is Marcelo Argueta from Canada , I am currently a volunteer at R.O.S.E. (with Sara from Canada and Elena from Germany ) who is currently helping Jeevan Verma, the head of the NGO, with some computer work as well as helping with the kids of the school he runs and helping with the family with their seasonal agriculture.  volunteering with R.O.S.E.! It has been a really great experience for me. In my first weeks of volunteering here, I have helped with their cultivation of wheat, daal (lentils), coriander seed, garlic and other crops. Monsoon season is near which means there is much work to be done. Morning are usually spent at the primary school assisting in a school curriculum of Hindi, English and Math. The kids are numerous and come from very poor families, therefore are usually very happy at receiving the care and attention of volunteers. The kids are dismissed at 12:30 and volunteers go back to the homestay for lunch. Afternoons are usually spent helping the family with agriculture and getting to know the village. there is a small fee for staying with us which includes accommodation and food. This fee depends on how long you plan on staying with visitors at ChaokoreeROSE.
This is an incredible experience,

Kanda is a beautiful place and the trekking in the area was wonderful. Also helping the community by teaching their childeren was great. The family and local people were very friendly. They invented me at a wedding and it was a unique experience. Staying at ROSE Kanda has been great to experience India in a more authentic way.

Lauren computer help 17--06-2013Loren from Holland teaching art on june 24-2013Loren from Holland teaching art 24--06-2013  It was my first time volunteering. Before I was travelling in India with my dad for two weeks, so the difference between those two was very big and unfortunately I was very tired because of that. The difference made me also feel a little homesick and all together I became sick the first 3 days, having fever, coughing, cold etc. The family took care of me very well! They were bringing me tea, water, food and medicines. After three days only some coughing was left and I went outside, but still I wanted to take it slow because of my tiredness. They introduced me to a ceremony at their lovely temple. The rest of days I could help with some washing, teaching and playing with the children. I also decided to donate a sewing machine, something that could be very useful for all the damaged clothes of the Kanda children and for making new clothes. I would have loved to help with more such as farming, fieldwork and building projects. Unfortunately I was the only volunteer at the moment, so there was no chance to start a small project.

I hope many more volunteers will come here and give the community more body.

Fanny Ndoumbe Toube from France and Spain
fanny.nt@wanadoo.fr
Three weeks at R.O.S.E. from July 13th to August 2nd.
I tought 6 mornings a week to the public school to children from 2 to 6 years old. Some were really young so not able to write and read but still we started to learn the english alphabet and some words in english. Also started to create a song. Gunjan was there for traduction so we had a really good time with the kids, playing and learning the body parts.
I also had an experience in the rice fields and saw how the fields are prepared by the men with the oxes and then how the rice is planted. I did it myself and enjoyed it.
I helped digging for some sand and transporting it from a point to another. Also helped for the laundry and learned the way they do it here.
I had good times with the family even if we don’t speak the same language and the food was really good, especially on the july 16th festival.
I also found good books in the family library.
